| Life in the Bus Industry by David Toy
The Members talk on Friday 2nd March will be given by David Toy who
worked in the Bus Industry for 34 years.
David promises to give an entertaining and fully illustrated talk on
his many years as an Engineering Managing and Director at a number of the
Major Bus Companies throughout the Country.
To wet your appetite this is a brief outline of his career
- 1970 Worked in the Haulage Industry where he trained as an Engineer
with the Reed Paper Group
- 1971 Assistant Engineer with Reading Bus Company- undertook a Management
Training Course
- 1974 Chief Engineer Brighton Borough Transport
- 1982 Scottish Bus Group Chief Engineer for Northern Scottish based
at Aberdeen
- 1985 Scottish Bus Group Engineering Manager at Edinburgh
- 1988 Kelvin Bus and associated companies - Chief Engineer
- 1989 Western Scottish & Clyde-side Buses as Chief Engineer
- 1994 Engineering Director London & Country at Reigate (Arriva)
- 1998 Engineering Director Cawlett Group - Devon, Cornwall & Dorset
- 2000 Engineering Director - Southern National
- 2002 Engineering Direct for First Hampshire & Dorset at Southampton
- 2005 Retired from the Bus Industry
David has been involved in a number of interesting projects over the
years. Today he is writes transport books and articles. He has a keen interest
in the Leyland Atlantean.
His first book on the Leyland Atlantean is now 'on sale'and soon he
will be publishing a History of Maidstone & District. He writes articles
for Classic Bus.
