Aldershot & District Bus Interest Group (ADBIG) will be holding a very Special Bus Running Day based at Farnborough International Airport on Sunday, 27th May 2012 to celebrate 100 years since the inauguration of the Aldershot & District Traction Co. Ltd., under the ownership of a BET subsidiary, British Automobile Traction Co. Ltd., on 24th July 1912. ADBIG is very fortunate in that FIVE, (Farnborough International Venue & Events), have generously agreed to make the large purpose built bus station at Farnborough International Airport available to us for the day of the 2012 event. The event will be a leisurely and relatively low-key affair with only preserved Aldershot & District buses and specially invited guest vehicles, including types of vehicle which have a close association with A&D, their successors, or with the local area, taking part. There will be frequent free preserved bus rides travelling over historic Aldershot & District routes within the area, including the original 1912 route operating between Aldershot and Farnborough. The free bus services will depart from the site every five to ten minutes between 10:00 and 16:00, with free AM/PM feeder services from/to the Alton, Farnham and Guildford areas. Other proposed attractions include a static vehicle display, a special display of original A&D timetables and posters, sales stands, refreshments, etc. In addition to FIVE, the event will be supported by the Aldershot & District Traction Co Ltd's successors Stagecoach Hants & Surrey and Arriva Surrey & West Sussex. We understand that in conjunction with the ADBIG event, Stagecoach Hants & Surrey are planning to hold an open day at their Aldershot Garage which is on the site of the old A&D Depot in Halimote Road and it is hoped that the A&D vehicles from Farnborough will also be able to serve this location.
